Doctor Rudolfo’s Portrait Museum is an experimental project done by R.E. Hartanto (artist) and Agung Hujatnikajennong (curator). The initial idea was to paint fellow artists, a common practice in modern art. However, instead of rendering a veristic portrayal of the subjects, Hartanto put them in unknown landscape in the middle of nowhere. In turn, these isolated figures were fictionalized by the curator. Agung changed their name and made up stories about their life. More than that, Hartanto and Agung constructed a story about the whole project, that these painting were once donated to the gallery by a mysterious collector. The gallery eventually decided to name the collection: Doctor Rudolfo’s Portrait Museum.
